Il Sentiero del Viandante
The Sentiero del Viandante is a trek in stages that runs along the entire eastern shore of Lake Como. Traveling along ancient mule tracks and paths, the route (which crosses the villages on the lake) develops halfway up the coast from Lecco to Colico among wonderful views of the Lario. The altitudes are low (the maximum altitude reached is 800m above sea level) and for this reason it is ideal to travel in spring, autumn and winter. Due to these characteristics, therefore, it is not recommended to travel it in the hottest months of the year.
There are five official stages: from Lecco to Abbadia, from Abbadia to Lierna, from Lierna to Varenna, from Varenna to Dervio and from Dervio to Colico. Depending on your training, however, it is possible to divide the stages differently.
Generally the Sentiero del Viandante does not present particular technical difficulties and for this reason it is suitable for everyone. In any case, since you are walking along stretches of forest path and in some places the slopes can be a little steep, it is recommended to wear appropriate clothing and trekking boots.
